Sport Psychologist in training – Alex Harper
By combining evidence-based strategies with a holistic approach, I guide individuals toward enhanced wellbeing, optimised performance, and lasting results. For more information about how I can support your journey, read on below.
Experience
My background in Sport & Exercise, Counselling, Clinical, and Positive Psychology comes from over 20 years of study and hands-on experience. I began by studying Psychology for five years, then trained in Person-Centred Counselling (2009–2010), which taught me how to work one-to-one with people in a way that’s empathetic, respectful, and without judgment.
I then spent five years supporting adults with a range of mental health challenges, using evidence-based tools from Clinical and Positive Psychology (the science of what helps people thrive). During this time, I explored how sport and exercise psychology can improve mental health, build resilience, and support recovery from stress, anxiety, and burnout.
My passion for this topic led me to complete a master’s in Sport & Exercise Psychology, where I developed the tools to help athletes, coaches, and teams move from self-doubt to confidence, from frustration to focus, and from pressure to performance. I support individuals in building the mental skills needed to manage setbacks, stay motivated, perform under pressure, and thrive in both sport and life.
Now, gaining accreditation as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist, I work 1:1 with athletes (from youth to elite levels) as well as with coaches, parents, and other sports professionals. My work focuses on strengthening mindsets, promoting wellbeing, and creating supportive environments where athletes and teams can thrive, feel confident, and optimise performance.

Values
1. Personal Growth
I believe every athlete has unlimited potential, and this can be unlocked through focused energy and mindset at any given moment.
As a Sport Psychologist in training, I integrate principles from Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, and Sport and Exercise Psychology to help athletes identify areas for improvement in both mental well-being and performance.
By applying Positive Psychology, I work with you to build the mental resilience, focus, and confidence needed to surpass your goals – in all areas of life.
2. Holistic Approach
In sport, success requires more than just physical training – it involves mental and emotional strength, too.
I take a holistic approach to athlete development, considering both the physical and psychological aspects of your life.
This means looking at how your mindset, emotions, and external pressures impact your performance. By understanding your current situation, we can tailor your mental strategies to enhance your training, recovery, and performance in competition.
3. Personalised Support
Every athlete’s journey is unique, and I believe in offering a personalised approach to development.
Research-backed strategies guide my work, but I tailor every programme to meet your individual needs, whether you’re striving for elite-level performance or looking to overcome a specific mental barrier.
By combining cutting-edge sports psychology principles with a deep understanding of your goals, I provide a bespoke service that helps you achieve lasting results.
4. Evidence-Based Approach
Sports psychology is constantly evolving, and staying up-to-date with the latest research is key to performance enhancement.
I ensure your programme is rooted in the most current psychological research, using evidence-based strategies to improve focus, resilience, motivation, and recovery.
This ensures that your approach is not only personalised but also informed by the most effective and proven methods in sports psychology.
5. Empowerment for Life
The skills you develop in sports psychology with Wellbeing Performance, won’t be limited to your time on the field or in the gym. They are transferable to every area of life.
My programmes are designed to equip you with tools and strategies you can use independently, long after our work together.
Whether it’s managing performance anxiety, bouncing back from setbacks, or maintaining motivation, you’ll have the mental strength to continue growing, evolving, and performing at your peak.
Let’s build a mental toolkit that allows you to reach your goals – while feeling great!
